"Dr. Starlight and The Watchmaker" is a "Rock Opera" (in the traditional sense) that was written by yours truly and first performed by "Rhinegold" in 1976.
This photo from 1978 is of the band dressed as the characters in that ambitious production. Patrick Bourke was The Watchmaker, Gerry Mosby and Danny Bourne were the Nemulaan, and I am Dr.Starlight.
We performed this piece until April of 1980 when the band met with our destined demise... ie: we broke up.
The club scene in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes of Canada was very vibrant in the 1970's and this rock opera was our main claim to their stages.
The extreme reaction (both of a positive and sometimes negative nature) that "Dr.Starlight and The Watchmaker" always drew from those club audiences was duly noted and many elaborate stories about the performances of the piece have continued to surface ever since.
Subsequent to that era, my "Gowan" solo years in the 1980's and 90's and my 13+ years in Styx have been a joyous ride and my life in music to this point has been a spectacular adventure.
As great as that life has been however, for me it all connects back to the ambitious extravagance and the story of Dr.Starlight and The Watchmaker.
For the past few years I've been recording the entire tale and hope to have it ready for release in the coming year.
Yours, Dr. Starlight (along with timely regards from the Watchmaker)
